History

Advent Health Care Corporation is the successor to the North York Branson Hospital, a community hospital that faithfully served the Toronto area until May 1998.  Recognizing that the suburban and country areas in North York needed a hospital, the Ontario Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church committed to building one and used its own land to build Branson Hospital.  In July 1957, Branson opened its doors to the community.

In May 1998, due to the provincial government’s mandate to restructure the health services in Ontario, hospital operations were transferred over to North York General Hospital.  It was at this time that North York Branson Hospital changed their name to Advent Health Care Corporation and created a vision to develop the campus on 555 Finch Avenue West into a comprehensive seniors’ residential community that would offer independent and assisted housing, long-term care homes, health and wellness services and retail space.

The first step in this vision took shape with the construction of Valleyview Residence, a 174 bed long-term care facility that opened in December 2004.  In a matter of five months, Valleyview Residence was filled to capacity and continues be a leading choice in long-term care.

The newest addition to the campus, Forestview Retirement Residence, received its first resident in March 2018.  This 128-suite retirement home caters to both independent and assisted living and boasts elegant amenities coupled with compassionate care.
