Director of Resident Care (Full-Time)
Valleyview Residence, owned and operated by Advent Health Care, is seeking application from qualified registered nurses for the position of Director of Care. Valleyview, opened in 2004, is a long-term care home with 174 beds, located in six home areas. Valleyview maintains a good reputation in the community for its service and care with current 800 people on the wait list. This home is located in Toronto.
Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care is responsible for the overall management of the nursing department, nursing staff and resident care services within the Home and ensures the provision of quality delivery of resident care through adherence of established policies and standards within the regulatory requirements.
Establishes, implements, manages and improves standards for nursing care, and policies and procedures for quality resident care to meet individual resident needs.
Participates in continuous quality improvement and risk management initiatives within the Home by monitoring, evaluating and improving the quality of nursing service and resident care.
Responsible to manage the nursing department budget and ongoing maintenance of the budget and ensuring of supplies/equipment are available.
Provision of effective human resource in relation, within a unionized environment, to all staffing matters for the nursing department which includes – the recruiting, hiring, training, evaluation, development, attendance management, promotions and dismissal of nursing team members in consultation with the Administrator.
Liaises and consults with residents and families, regulatory and government officials, the LHIN and community partners including but not limited to other long term care homes, hospitals and professionals in relation to departmental need of resource and provision of resident care services.
Assumes responsibility for the Home’s operations in the absence of the Administrator.
Registered Nurse with a current certificate of proficiency from the College Nurses of Ontario
At least 5 years of working as a Registered Nurse, with health care management or leadership experience. Long-term care sector experience and definite asset.
Effective planning and leadership skills required for managing the nursing department in areas such as strategic and risk management, staffing, decision making, budgets etc.
Extensive knowledge of MOHLTC legislation, funding process and indicators
Possess excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet use and computerized documentation.
Effective verbal and written English communication skills required.
Bachelor of Science – Nursing or equivalent.
Post–RN education, certification or degree in nursing administration and health management, particularly long-term care and further education in gerontology, geriatrics or rehabilitation.
Current AIS Certification considered an asset.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).
